Mathematics Anxiety (MA) refers to negative feelings some individuals experience when dealing with numerical and mathematical content. Over six decades of research on MA provided numerous insights on the nature of this phenomenon. At the same time, several basic aspects of MA are not fully understood. In this talk I will first give an overview of relatively undisputed claims on mathematics anxiety. Subsequently, I will focus on identifying blank spots in our understanding of MA and our attempts to address them: (a) are we on the same page when we define MA?; (b) do men and women understand MA in the same way?; (c) what is the prevalence of the MA?; (d) what is there on the opposite side of the MA; (e) whether being anxious and positive towards mathematics are mutually exclusive?; (f) does MA affect everyone equally?
