Project AIMED (2020 - 2023)

Large International Projects with DSV as PARTNER

AIMED - Antimicrobial Integrated Methodologies for orthopaedic applications” is a research project granted by European Union in the framework of the Horizon 2020 MSCA-ITN program. AIMED is a 4-year Marie Sklodowska-Curie - Innovative Training Network project funded with a total budget of 3.6M€.

AIMed’s Innovative Training Network, consisting of 12 beneficiaries and 7 partner organisations, will develop a range of materials with antimicrobial properties that are suitable for use on the surfaces of orthopaedic implants. This is in response to the increasing problem of post-operative infection by antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Recognising a lack of coordinated activities in this area of research, AIMed will not only train people but also develop novel and effective antimicrobial strategies for preventing orthopaedic infections. This work will include the evaluation of antibacterial action and biocompatibility of the developed products using appropriate models.

According to Marie Skłodowska-Curie - ITN actions that aim to promote training and international mobility for early stage researchers (ESRs), the AIMED Consortium will recruit 15 young researchers in the different Nations involved in the project (France, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Croatia, Germany, Bulgaria, Spain, United Kingdom). The training of the 15 ESRs appointed to AIMed will be multidisciplinary and intersectoral, with an emphasis on the need for technology transfer from academic institutions to commercial users.
