Started in 2013, the Graphene Flagship is a Future and Emerging Technology Flagship established by the European Commission. The main goal of the flagship consists in bringing together academic and industrial researchers to take graphene from the realm of academic laboratories into European society in a timeframe of 10 years. The Department of Life Sciences together with the Department of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Trieste is involved in the “Work Package 4 -Health and Environment”, leaded by Prof. M. Prato. This Work Package takes care of nanosafety of graphene-based materials at different levels, i.e. towards humans, plant organisms and the environment, as an essential requirement that cannot be separated from the development of new nanotechnologies.
