Guidalberto Manfioletti is Full Professor in Molecular biology at the University of Trieste.

Professor Manfioletti has a B.S. degree in Biology from the University of Trieste. He had his research training at EMBL in Heidelberg (Germany) and at ICGEB in Trieste as a fellow and at the University of Trieste as Assistant professor. Among his research experiences, he has been visiting scientist at the Biophysics Laboratories, University of Portsmouth (Portsmouth), the Institute for Cancer Research, Chester Beatty Laboratories (London), and the Schepens Institute, Harvard Medical School (Boston).

His research interest focuses mainly in the molecular oncology field. Particularly, on the oncogenic role of the chromatin architectural transcription factor High Mobility Group A (HMGA) proteins.

Among his main contribution:
- the cloning and characterization of HMGA2 (Nucleic Acids Res. 1991)
- the characterization of HMGA2 as an architectural transcription factor (Nucl. Acids. Res. 1998).
- the discovery of a HMGA2-dependent regulation of cyclin A (Mol. Cell. Biol. 2003).
- the discovery of the inhibitory role of HMGA1 towards p53 family members (Cancer Res. 2006).
- the characterization of a molecular HMGA network. (BBA 2010)
- the characterization of the oncogenic role of HMGA1 in promoting metastatic processes in basal-like breast cancer cells (Oncotarget 2013)
- the definition of the HMGA1-CCNE2-YAP axis in the regulation of breast cancer agressiveness (Oncotarget 2015)
- the HMGA1-dependent regulation of FOXM1 and  its relevance in breast cancer angiogenesis (J. Exp. Clin. Cancer Res. 2019)

Professor Manfioletti has more than 90 papers published in international scientific journals, he is member of the Editorial board of “Scientific reports” (Nature Publishing Group), “Frontiers  in  Endocrinology”, “Frontiers  in  Genetics ” and “International  Journal  of  Molecular Sciences” (MDPI).
